Comeback Daniil Medvedev Secures Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years
19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces
A resurgent the Russian player secured his maiden title for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.
The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a torrid year, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in particular - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with former trainer Cervara.
Currently training with his coach and his other coach, he has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy since the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt from that period of 2023.
Success also signifies he has won 21 titles at twenty-one various events.
"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters at once, so to win a title is particularly special," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, including in that event earlier this year.
His retrieving play style and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was over.
Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.
The champion recovered from a break down in the first set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.
The pair exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his maiden professional victory, gained dominance to force a decider.
Moutet saved 4 early-game chances in a competitive third set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Suitably, he clinched victory with a point at the net, with Moutet incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
